Luxury furniture retailer Modory going out of business
Total liquidation of home furnishings and rugs begins September 17
MISSOULA, Mont. (September 14, 2026) — Modory Fine Furniture and Rugs will close its doors permanently after 21 years. The independent furniture retailer and design center opens its final sale to the public September 17 with once-in-a-lifetime prices on all inventory.
Modory Fine Furniture and Rugs enjoyed two decades of growth and success shaped by owner Lea Sanders and her extensive career in the home furnishings industry, which began in [YEAR] in the rug business in Vail, Colorado. In 2005, Sanders moved to Missoula and opened Amira Rug Gallery. After building a customer base in the community, she began working closely with the owners of local furniture store Williams and Wegner, which served many of the same customers. In 2017, she purchased that furniture business and combined it with her rug store to create Modory Fine Furniture and Rugs.
Under Sanders’ ownership, Modory Fine Furniture and Rugs became known for a curated mix of furniture, rugs, lighting and home décor, with a design aesthetic influenced by Scandinavian and mountain modern styles. The store specializes in custom furniture, offering a variety of options for sizing, fabrics and finishes, with much of its furniture sourced from family-owned manufacturers. Sanders has also supported and contributed to the Missoula community through local organizations including Watson Children’s Shelter and Open Aid Alliance.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the customers, designers and friends who have supported Modory for the past two decades,” said Sanders. “It has been a privilege to help make so many homes a little more beautiful, and I’m proud of what we’ve built together.”
Modory Fine Furniture and Rugs begins liquidation September 17 at 1121 West Kent Ave. During the final sale, deep discounts will be offered on high-end living room, dining room and bedroom furniture with accessories and one-of-a-kind hand-knotted rugs up to 30% off.
